Appalachian Trail magic; Chattooga River, climbing and Service
Ages 14-18 yrs
Dates: June 15th – 24th
We’re going local for the Summer of 2017 and is going to be so much fun. This is like the greatest hits of the South East – from an expedition through one of the most beautiful areas to climbing and whitewater paddling. Couldn’t really fit much more action into this, but we’ll try with a great service project to finish off!
We start off with a 6 day wilderness expedition on the AT starting in Tennessee. We’ll get up into the high country of Rowan Mountain and travel across balds, incredible views and the magic of our local mountains until we reach the Nolichucky river.
After emerging from the wilderness we’ll head back to Asheville to re-supply and get the gear for the rest of the trip. Then we head south west past Franklin to Green Cove, where we will base out of for the rest of the trip. A day of amazing climbing, as well as the famed Chattooga river, which is designated wild and scenic and one of the most special rivers in the US. We’ll paddle with the NOC on section IV in rafts.
The tuition for our summer quarter works differently than the rest of the year.
The 10-day trip tuition is $785 for TAASC members (including financial aid students). As always we strive to provide amazing value for our trips.
$200 deposits are due to reserve your spot and to help us book the best pricing on these activities
We’ll be working on the trip details during some of our meetings this quarter. Students will get to plan and design how the trip unfolds. They will figure out logistics, resupplies and other multi-day, multi-element considerations. These longer immersive experiences are where students really learn and develop the most skills.
