Dolly Sods, Harpers Ferry and Climbing in West Virginia
Ages 14-18 yrs
Dates: June 17th – 26th
Exploring the amazing Dolly Sods! This is a piece of high altitude tundra from Canada that somehow ended up in West Virginia! This will be the start of our summer trip – a four day expedition.
We start off with a 4 day wilderness expedition of the Dolly Sods area. This is super unique and so different to anything we experience in NC. From open tundra to forest and rivers, it has it all.
After emerging from the wilderness we’ll head up to Harper’s Ferry. Here we’ll get to paddle a fun river, bike the C & O Canal towpath, as well as explore the town and it’s fascinating history. It’s an outdoor town that should be on everyone’s bucket list!
Rock climbing in West Virginia. There’s nothing like it and we’ll get to work bouldering and then working our way up to more advanced top rope climbs. Students will be able to really get into the practice and art of climbing – from building anchors to safely belaying each other. We will also practice some lead climbing skills for those that are interested.
The 10-day trip tuition is $857 for TAASC members (including financial aid students). As always we strive to provide amazing value for our trips.
We’ll be working on the trip details during some of our meetings this quarter. Students will get to plan and design how the trip unfolds. They will figure out logistics, resupplies and other multi-day, multi-element considerations. These longer immersive experiences are where students really learn and develop the most skills.
